Painting 1 of 99…’s to a new adventure

Knowing how to start is never easy. Impossible almost. But in the end, the most important thing is to just….start.

I thought I’d begin with the smaller 8 x10″ canvas boards that were passed down to me from Evelyn. The beauty of these is that they frame easily because of the common size and being thin enough to fit into a frame. The birds in this picture are made from a page of an old hymnal. Specifically the song “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”

I hope this series brings joy to all who knew Evelyn.

Jesu, joy of man’s desiring,
Holy wisdom, love most bright;
Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light.
Word of God, our flesh that fashioned,
With the fire of life impassioned,
Striving still to truth unknown,
Soaring, dying round Thy throne.

Through the way where hope is guiding,
Hark, what peaceful music rings;
Where the flock, in Thee confiding,
Drink of joy from deathless springs.
Theirs is beauty’s fairest pleasure;
Theirs is wisdom’s holiest treasure.
Thou dost ever lead Thine own
In the love of joys unknown.

  1. I especially love this now that I see the “thought” behind it. She loved “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring”, and she loved birds.
