Painting 48 of 99

18 x 24″ mixed media on 1.5″ deep cradled wood panel. Walnut finish, no framing required!

This one had me messing with color and making adjustments more than usual. I’ve learned through this series that nothing is final until I say it is. Pressing forward will produce something I’m satisfied with….it just might be a longer journey than I intended to take. 🙂

Something new I tried was using a masking fluid for the brown bark on the tree, that way the actual wood of the panel with it’s walnut stain would end up being the wood you see in the final piece once the masking fluid was removed. I’ll include a close up. Other things I tried were a 3D element with the leaves only, where I mixed modeling paste into the paint to give it a very heavy body. Also tried a glossier finish on the leaves only. I thought that would an interesting way to play with how things pop, simply by changing the finish. I wanted to practice loosening up a bit, and purposely didn’t use small brushes on this piece. Enjoy!
