Painting 19 of 99

Today I decided to go for a famous Michigan landmark–the Mackinac Bridge, aka “Mighty Mac.” I wanted to go for some more vivid colors in this piece, so I chose a sunset scene. I started with a blueprint of the bridge, and used water color paper for a flat surface to draw and ink the bridge on a smooth surface, then combined the two elements together. I’ve learned that the calligraphy pens don’t do detail work on heavy texture, which is why I thought to do this in two pieces. The canvas has texture to give an effect of waves at the bottom.
