Series Inspired By Emily Dickinson

I wanted a launching pad for this series that was both meaningful to me and an authentic inspiration source for paint on canvas. Poetry is painting with words to me. I blame Robin Williams for all that O Captain! My Captain! jazz in Dead Poets Society. Ever since that movie I’ve been hooked on both the reading and the writing of poems, so it felt like a natural fit to marry these two creative expressions for this series.

Each poem that inspired the painting is next to it on the individual Etsy listing. It was both inspiring and constricting in some ways–a really great creative exercise for me. My goal was not to give an ‘on the nose’ literal interpretation, but to use the beauty in the language as a springboard. There are 16 paintings total in the series, only a portion are listed today. I will be rolling the rest out in the next few weeks, as they are all in various stages of completion in my studio.

Thanks for checking out the site and joining me on this adventure!

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—
